It’s a chilly winter day, snow is on the ground. You’re sitting on the recliner in your living room with a good book, and your pet is curled up nearby. You look over at the thermostat, which is set to 18 °C. Sensible, but a little chilly. You walk over and bump it up a bit, to 20 °C. You barely notice, but within minutes you are again comfortable and lost in your book.
